Hadith 33570
٣٣٥٧٠ - حدثنا وكيع قال: ثنا بسطام بن مسلم عن عطاء بن أبي رباح أن طارق بن (المرقع) (١) أعتق غلامًا له للَّه، فمات وترك مالًا، فعرض على مولاه طارق فقال: شيء جعلته للَّه فلست بعائد فيه، فكتب في ذلك إلى عمر، فكتب عمر أن اعرضوا المال على طارق، فإن قبله (٢)، وإلا فاشتروا به رقيقًا فأعتقوهم، قال: فبلغ (٣) خمسة عشر رأسًا (٤).
Ata bin Abi Rabah narrates that Tariq bin Murqa’ freed his slave for the sake of Allah. The slave then died and left behind some wealth. This wealth was presented to his master, Tariq, but he said, “This is something I have left for Allah, so I will not take it back.” So, a letter was written to Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) regarding this matter. He replied, “Give the wealth to Tariq; if he takes it, that is fine, otherwise buy a slave with it and set him free.” The narrator says that the value of the wealth reached the price of fifteen slaves.
