Hadith 33350

٣٣٣٥٠ - حدثنا وكيع قال: ثنا سفيان عن عبد الواحد عن إسماعيل بن رجاء عن إبراهيم (١).
It is narrated from Hazrat Sha’bi that Hazrat Zaid bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) said regarding the issue of the mother, full sister, and grandfather that their issue will be divided into nine shares: three shares for the mother, four shares for the grandfather, and two shares for the sister. And Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said that half of the wealth, that is, three shares of the total wealth, will be for the sister, and two shares, that is, one third of the wealth, will be for the mother, and the remaining wealth, that is, one share, will be for the grandfather. And Hazrat Ibn Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said that half of the wealth, that is, three shares, will be for the sister, and one sixth of the wealth, that is, one share, will be for the mother, and the remaining wealth, that is, two shares, will be for the grandfather. And Hazrat Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) says that the wealth should be divided into three parts: one third for the mother, one third for the sister, and one third for the grandfather. And Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said that one third of the wealth will be for the mother and the remaining wealth will be for the grandfather. Hazrat Waki’ says that Sha’bi said that Hajjaj bin Yusuf asked me about this issue, so I told him the statements of these personalities. He liked the statement of Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) very much and asked, “Whose statement is this?” I said, “Hazrat Abu Turab (may Allah be pleased with him).” Upon this, Hajjaj composed himself and said, “We do not find fault with the decision of Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him); we only consider such and such things of his to be objectionable.”
