Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Masruq narrates that a case regarding a mother and maternal brothers was brought to Hazrat Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him). He gave one-sixth of the wealth to the mother, one-third to the brothers, and the remainder to the mother. He said, "The mother is the 'asaba (residuary heir) of the one who has no male 'asaba." And Hazrat Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) did not consider returning wealth to a paternal sister in the presence of a full sister, nor did he return wealth to a granddaughter in the presence of a real daughter.
