Hadith 32637
٣٢٦٣٧ - حدثنا ابن إدريس عن حصين عن زيد بن وهب قال: مررنا على أبي ذر بالربذة فسألناه عن منزله قال: كنت بالشام فقرأت هذه الآية: ﴿وَالَّذِينَ يَكْنِزُونَ الذَّهَبَ وَالْفِضَّةَ وَلَا يُنْفِقُونَهَا فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ﴾ [التوبة: ٣٤]، فقال معاوية: إنما هي في أهل الكتاب، فقلت: إنها لفينا وفيهم، (قال) (١): فكتب إلى عثمان (فكتب إليّ عثمان) (٢) أن أقبل، فلما قدمت ركبني الناس كأنهم لم يروني قبل ذلك، فشكوت ذلك إلى عثمان فقال: لو اعتزلت فكنت قريبًا، فنزلت هذا المنزل، فلا أدع (قوله) (٣): ولو أمروا عليَّ عبدًا حبشيًا (٤).
Hazrat Zaid bin Wahb narrates that we passed by Hazrat Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) at the place of Rabdhah, so we asked him the reason for his stay there. He said: I used to live in Syria, where I recited this verse: { الَّذِینَ یَکْنِزُونَ الذَّہَبَ وَالْفِضَّۃَ وَلاَ یُنْفِقُونَہَا فِی سَبِیلِ اللہِ } Hazrat Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) said that this verse is about the People of the Book. I said that this verse is about us and them. I wrote this matter to Hazrat Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him), and he sent me a message to come to him. When I arrived, people gathered around me as if they had never seen me before. I complained about this to Hazrat Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him), so he said: It would have been better if you had secluded yourself in a nearby village outside Madinah! I came to this place, and now I will not leave the command of the leader, even if they appoint an Abyssinian slave as my leader.
