It is narrated from Hazrat Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Hazrat Jibreel led me in prayer twice at the House of Allah. He led me in the Zuhr prayer when the sun had declined just the width of a sandal strap. Then he led me in the Asr prayer when the shadow of everything became equal to its length. Then he led me in the Maghrib prayer at the time when the fasting person breaks his fast. Then he led me in the Isha prayer when the twilight disappeared. Then he led me in the Fajr prayer at the time when eating and drinking becomes forbidden for the fasting person. Then, on the next day, he led me in the Zuhr prayer when the shadow of everything became equal to its length. Then he led me in the Asr prayer when the shadow of everything became twice its length. Then he led me in the Maghrib prayer at the time when the fasting person breaks his fast. Then he led me in the Isha prayer after one third of the night had passed. Then he led me in the Fajr prayer when it had become bright. Then he turned to me and said, "O Muhammad! This was the time of prayer for the Prophets before you; the time for your prayer is also between these two times."
