Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Abu Saeed Khudri narrates that there was a disagreement between Hazrat Ubayy bin Ka'b and Hazrat Ibn Mas'ud regarding praying in a single garment. Hazrat Ubayy said that one garment is sufficient. Hazrat Ibn Mas'ud said that two garments are necessary. Hazrat Umar came to them, scolded both of them, and said, "It is very distressing to me that the companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) differ regarding any matter. In such a case, upon whose verdict will the people act?" As for the matter itself, Ibn Mas'ud wishes to avoid any deficiency in prayer and desires to attain its perfection, but in my view, the opinion of Hazrat Ubayy is more preferable.
