Hadith 31974
٣١٩٧٤ - حدثنا ابن نمير عن الأعمش عن مسلم عن سعيد بن جبير عن ابن عباس: ﴿يَوَدُّ أَحَدُهُمْ لَوْ يُعَمَّرُ أَلْفَ سَنَةٍ﴾ [البقرة: ٩٦]، قال: هو كقول الأعاجم، (زهه) (١) هزار سأل، أي (عيش) (٢) ألف سنة (٣).
Hazrat Saeed bin Jubair narrates that Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) said regarding the verse (Each one of them wishes that he could be granted a life of a thousand years): This is like the idiom of the non-Arabs. "Live a thousand years" means "May you live a thousand years."
