Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that one night the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was performing prayer. During this, when he (peace and blessings be upon him) placed his hand on the ground, a scorpion stung him (peace and blessings be upon him). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) took his sandal and killed it. When he finished the prayer, he said: May Allah disgrace the scorpion! It does not spare a person in prayer nor anyone else, or he said: It does not spare a believer nor anyone else. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) asked for salt and water, then put the salt in a vessel, and with his finger kept applying and rubbing it on the stung area. And he (peace and blessings be upon him) recited the Mu'awwidhatayn (the last two chapters of the Qur'an) and blew over it.
