Hadith 30793
٣٠٧٩٣ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا عيسى بن يونس عن الأعمش عن إبراهيم عن علقمة قال: غزونا أرض الروم ومعنا حذيفة وعلينا رجل من قريش فشرب الخمر، فأردنا أن نحده فقال حذيفة: أتحدون أميركم وقد دنوتم من عدوكم فيطمعون فيكم؟ (فقال) (١): (لأشربنها) (٢) وإن كانت محرمة، ولأشربن علي رغم من (رغم) (٣) (٤).
Hazrat Alqamah narrates that we were fighting against the Romans. Hazrat Hudhaifah (may Allah be pleased with him) was with us. A Quraishi was our leader. He drank alcohol, and when we wanted to carry out the prescribed punishment on him, Hazrat Hudhaifah (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "Will you establish the prescribed punishment on your leader while you are near your enemy? In this way, the enemy will overpower you." Upon this, the leader said, "I will drink alcohol even though it is forbidden."
