Hadith 30532
٣٠٥٣٢ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا أبو معاوية عن حجاج عن أبي مصعب (١) عطاء بن أبي مروان عن أبيه أن عليًا أُتِي بالنجاشي سكران من الخمر في رمضان، فتركه حتى صحا ثم ضربه ثمانين، ثم أمر به إلى السجن، ثم أخرجه من الغد فضربه عشرين، فقال: ثمانين للخمر وعشرين لجرأتك على اللَّه في رمضان (٢).
Hazrat Abu Marwan narrates that Najashi the poet was brought to Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) during Ramadan while he was intoxicated, so Hazrat Ali let him go until he became sober. Then he had him flogged with eighty lashes. After that, he ordered him to be imprisoned. The next day, he had him brought out and gave him twenty lashes, and said: "Eighty lashes are for drinking alcohol, and twenty lashes are for daring to defy Allah during Ramadan."
