Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Sabi’ Abu Salim narrates that I was present with Hazrat Hasan bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) when a man was brought who had confessed to theft. Upon this, Hazrat Hasan said, “Perhaps you snatched it?” so that he might say no. This continued until the man confessed before him two or three times. Then, by his order, the man’s hand was cut off.
