Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Hattan bin Abdullah narrates that a friend came to me and called out to me. I looked out and he said that a letter from the Commander of the Faithful was read before us, in which it was written that in those houses where there are curtains with pictures on them, it is obligatory for them to take down those curtains. So I did not consider it appropriate to spend the night in a state of sin and took down those curtains. Muhammad narrates that the predecessors did not consider pictures on things that are spread out to be disliked, but they did consider pictures on things that are hung up to be disliked.
