Hadith 24477
٢٤٤٧٧ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا ابن أبي زائدة عن عوف عن محمد قال: كان شريح مما يقول للخصم: يا عبد اللَّه! واللَّه إني لأقضي لك وإني لأظنك ظالمًا، و (لكن) (١) لست أقضي بالظن، ولكن أقضي بما أحضرني (من بينتك) (٢) وإن قضائي لا يحل لك ما حرم (عليك) (٣).
Muhammad, may Allah have mercy on him, narrates that Hazrat Shurayh would say to the litigant, "O servant of Allah! By God, I have judged in your favor, and I think that you are a wrongdoer, but I do not judge based on my suspicion and opinion. I judge according to the witnesses you have presented. Surely, by my judgment, that which is forbidden for you will not become lawful."
