ما يقول الرجل إذا سمع الأذانWhat Should the Listener Say in Response to Adhan?
Hadith 2387
٢٣٨٧ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: نا عبدة بن سليمان عن سعيد عن قتادة: أن عثمان كان إذا سمع المؤذن (يؤذن) (١) يقول كما يقول في التشهد والتكبير كله، فإذا قال: حي على الصلاة قال: ما شاء اللَّه (و) (٢) لا حول ولا قوة إلا باللَّه، وإذا قال: قد قامت الصلاة قال: مرحبا بالقائلين عدلا، وبالصلاة مرحبا وأهلا، ثم ينهض إلى الصلاة (٣).
Hazrat Qatadah narrates that when Hazrat Usman heard the voice of the muezzin, he would repeat the same words as the muezzin during the tashahhud and takbeer. However, when the muezzin said "Hayya 'ala-s-Salah," he would say "Ma sha' Allah, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah," and when the muezzin said "Qad qamatis salah," he would say: "Welcome to those who speak of justice and truth, and welcome to the prayer," and then he would stand up for the prayer.
