Hadith 23375
٢٣٣٧٥ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا مروان عن معمر عن الزهري عن السائب ابن يزيد قال: قال عمر: كان رسول اللَّه ﷺ يعطيني (العطاء) (١) فأقول: يا رسول اللَّه أعطه من هو أحق إليه مني، فقال رسول اللَّه ﷺ: "خذه فإما أن تموله، وإما أن تصدق به، وما جاءك من هذا المال وأنت غير سائل ولا (مشرف) (٢) فخذه، وما لا فلا تتبعه نفسك" (٣).
Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that once the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave me something. I said: O Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)! Please give it to someone who is more in need than me. The Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Take it, or you may collect it, or you may give it in charity. Whatever wealth comes to you without you asking for it or seeking it, then take it, and whatever does not come to you without asking, do not pursue it.
