Hadith 22138
٢٢١٣٨ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا يزيد بن هارون عن هشام عن (الحسن) (١) قال: (أتى) (٢) دهقان من دهاقين سواد الكوفة عبد اللَّه بن جعفر يستعين به في شيء على علي، (قال) (٣): فكلم له عليا فقضى له حاجته، قال: فبعث إليه الدهقان بأربعين ألفا وبشيء معها لا أدري ما هو؟ فلما وضعت بين يدي عبد اللَّه بن جعفر قال: ما هذا؟ قيل له: بعث بها الدهقان الذي كلمت له في حاجته أمير المؤمنين، قال: ردوها عليه، فإنا أهلَ بيت لا نبيع المعروف (٤).
It is narrated from Hasan (may Allah have mercy on him) that one of the chiefs of the villages of Kufa came to the service of Abdullah bin Ja'far (may Allah be pleased with him). He was seeking help (some recommendation) from Abdullah bin Ja'far against Ali (may Allah be pleased with him). Abdullah bin Ja'far (may Allah be pleased with him) recommended him to Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), so Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) fulfilled his need. The chief sent forty thousand dirhams as a gift to Abdullah bin Ja'far (may Allah be pleased with him), along with some other things—I do not know what they were. When all these things were placed before Abdullah bin Ja'far (may Allah be pleased with him), he asked, "What is this?" The people said, "The chief for whom you recommended to Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) has sent this for you." He (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "Send it back to him. We, the Ahl al-Bayt, do not sell goodness."
