Hadith 20288
٢٠٢٨٨ - [حدثنا أبو بكر قال: نا أبو خالد الأحمر عن جويبر عن الضحاك: ﴿وَعَلَى الْوَارِثِ مِثْلُ ذَلِكَ﴾] (١) قال: هو (الوالد) (٢) (يعني) (٣) النفقة على (الولد) (٤) ⦗٤٧١⦘ فإن لم يكن عنده فعلى العصبة فإن لم يكن (عنده) (٥) جبرت الأم على رضاعه، وإذا عرفها الولد فلم يأخذ من غيرها جبرت على رضاعه.
Hazrat Dahhak (may Allah have mercy on him), in the commentary of the verse { وَعَلَی الْوَارِثِ مِثْلُ ذَلِکَ } of the Holy Qur'an, states that it means the maintenance of the child is obligatory upon the father; if he is not present, then it is obligatory upon the male relatives, and if they are also not present, then the mother will be ordered to breastfeed. If the child does not drink milk from anyone other than the mother, then she will be compelled to breastfeed the child.
