Hadith 20036
٢٠٠٣٦ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: نا الثقفي عن برد عن مكحول في الرجل يطلق أو يموت وهو غائب قال: (إن) (١) قامت بينة عادلة (إذن) (٢) (اعتدت) (٣) من يوم يموت، (وإلا) (٤) فمن يوم يأتيها الخبر (٥).
Hazrat Mak'hool (may Allah have mercy on him) says that if someone divorces his wife or passes away while being absent, then if the testimony of a just person is established, the woman should begin her waiting period (iddah) from the day the death occurred. And if there is no just testimony, then she should begin her waiting period from the day she receives the news.
