Hadith 20030
٢٠٠٣٠ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: نا كثير بن هشام عن جعفر بن برقان قال: سمعت الحكم يقول: (سألت) (١) سعيد بن جبير عن (المتوفى) (٢) عنها زوجها وهو غائب من (أي يوم) (٣) تعتد؟ قال. من يوم مات زوجها تعتد إذا قامت البينة، وإذا طلقت (مثل) (٤) ذلك.
Hazrat Hakam (may Allah have mercy on him) says that I asked Hazrat Saeed bin Jubair (may Allah have mercy on him) from which day does a woman whose husband has passed away begin her waiting period (‘iddah)? He replied that if testimony is established, then she should begin her ‘iddah from the very day her husband passed away, and the same ruling applies when divorce takes place.
