Hadith 1871
١٨٧١ - حدثنا هشيم قال: أخبرنا منصور عن (ابن) (١) سيرين عن أفلح مولى أبي أيوب: عن أبي أيوب أنه كان يأمر بالمسح على الخفين، وكان هو يغسل قدميه، فقيل له في ذلك: كيف تأمر بالمسح، وأنت تغسل؟ فقال: بئس (ما لي) (٢) إن كان (مهنأة) (٣) لكم، ومأثمة علي قد رأيت رسول اللَّه ﷺ يفعله، ويأمر به، ولكن حبب إلي الوضوء (٤).
Hazrat Aflah narrates that Hazrat Abu Ayyub used to instruct others to wipe over their socks, but he himself used to wash his feet. Someone asked him, "You instruct people to wipe over their socks, but you yourself wash your feet?" He replied, "I consider it a concession for you and a sin for myself. I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) instructing to wipe over the socks and also washing his feet, and I too prefer ablution (washing)."
