Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Ibn Buraidah narrates that when we came to Madinah Munawwarah, Hazrat Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) came to us and then said: We were present in the service of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when a man with fine clothing, good fragrance, and a beautiful appearance came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "Peace be upon you, O Messenger of Allah." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied, "And upon you." He said, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! May I come closer to you?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Come closer." So he came a little closer to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). We thought (in our hearts) that we had never seen anyone on this day with such fine clothing, nor with such a good fragrance and beautiful face, nor anyone who honored the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) more than him. Then he said, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! May I come closer to you?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Yes," so he came a little closer. We again thought the same. Then for the third time, he said, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! May I come closer to you?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Yes." He came so close to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that his knees touched the blessed knees of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He said, "O Messenger of Allah! What is Islam?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "To establish prayer, to give zakat, to fast in Ramadan, to perform Hajj, and to perform ghusl after major impurity." He said, "You have spoken the truth." We said, "By Allah, we have never seen anyone like this on this day, but he is teaching the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) (or the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is teaching him)."
