Hadith 1257

`Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that` on the day of Badr, when the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was inside a tent, he said: "O Allah! I beseech You by Your covenant and Your promise (to grant victory to the Muslims). O Allah! If You will, after today You will never be worshipped (on earth again)." Then Sayyiduna Abu Bakr Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) took hold of his (the Prophet's) hand and said, "O Messenger of Allah! (This much supplication) is sufficient for you. Indeed, you have reached the limit in supplicating to your Lord." And the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was wearing armor at that time. Then he (peace be upon him) came out saying these words: "Soon this group will be defeated and they will turn their backs and flee. Rather, the Hour is their appointed time, and the Hour is more grievous and bitter." (Surah Al-Qamar 45, 46) And in another narration, it is mentioned that this incident took place on the day of Badr.
