حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ الْأَنْمَاطِيُّ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عَوْنٍ الْخَرَّازُ، ثنا دَاوُدُ بْنُ الزِّبْرِقَانِ، ثنا لَيْثُ بْنُ أَبِي سُلَيْمٍ، حَدَّثَنِي الْحَكَمُ بْنُ عُتَيْبَةَ، وَعَبْدُ الْكَرِيمِ أَبُو أُمَيَّةَ، عَنْ مِقْسَمٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ فِي رَجُلٍ غَشِي امْرَأَتَهُ وَهِيَ حَائِضٌ قَالَ: «يَتَصَدَّقُ بِدِينَارٍ أَوْ بِنِصْفِ دِينَارٍ»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said concerning a man who had intercourse with his wife while she was menstruating: "He should give a dinar or half a dinar in charity."
حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الدَّبَرِيُّ، أَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، أَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ رَاشِدٍ، وَابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ، قَالَا: أَنَا عَبْدُ الْكَرِيمِ، عَنْ مِقْسَمٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «مَنْ أَتَى امْرَأَتَهُ فِي حَيْضِهَا فَلْيَتَصَدَّقْ بِدِينَارٍ، وَمَنْ أَتَاهَا وَقَدْ أَدْبَرَ الدَّمُ عَنْهَا وَلَمْ تَغْتَسِلْ فَبِنِصْفِ دِينَارٍ» كُلُّ ذَلِكَ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever goes to his wife during her menstruation should give a dinar in charity; and whoever goes to her when the blood has stopped but she has not yet performed ghusl should give half a dinar in charity." All of this is narrated from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْعَبَّاسِ الْمُؤَدِّبُ، ثنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْجَعْدِ، أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ الرَّازِيُّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْكَرِيمِ بْنِ أَبِي الْمُخَارِقِ، عَنْ مِقْسَمٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي رَجُلٍ جَامِعَ امْرَأَتَهُ وَهِيَ حَائِضٌ قَالَ: «إِنْ كَانَ دَمًا عَبِيطًا فَلْيَتَصَدَّقْ بِدِينَارٍ، وَإِنْ كَانَ صُفْرَةً فَبِنِصْفِ دِينَارٍ»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said concerning a man who had intercourse with his wife while she was menstruating: "If the blood is fresh red, he should give a dinar in charity; and if it is yellowish, then half a dinar."
حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ عُمَرَ الْوَكِيعِيُّ، ثنا أَبِي، ثنا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ، ثنا هُرَيْمُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ، عَنْ لَيْثٍ، عَنِ الْحَكَمِ، عَنْ مِقْسَمٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ: أَنَا رَأَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ «يُصَلِّي الصَّلَاةَ، وَالْحُمُرُ تَعْتَرِكُ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ»
Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) praying while donkeys were fighting with one another in front of him (peace and blessings be upon him).
حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الدَّبَرِيُّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ الثَّوْرِيِّ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي زِيَادٍ، عَنْ مِقْسَمٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ «احْتَجَمَ وَهُوَ صَائِمٌ مُحْرِمٌ»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had himself cupped while he was both fasting and in ihram.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had himself cupped while he was fasting.

Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had himself cupped while he was both in ihram and fasting.
حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ نَائِلَةَ الْأَصْبَهَانِيُّ، ثنا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو الْبَجَلِيُّ، ثنا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي زِيَادٍ، عَنْ مِقْسَمٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ: «تَزَوَّجَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ مُحْرِمٌ وَاحْتَجَمَ وَهُوَ صَائِمٌ»
Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) married while he was in ihram, and had himself cupped while he was fasting.

Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had himself cupped while he was in ihram.
حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ سَهْلِ بْنِ أَيُّوبَ الْأَهْوَازِيُّ، ثنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ بَحْرٍ، ثنا هِشَامُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي زِيَادٍ، عَنْ مِقْسَمٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، رَفَعَهُ قَالَ: «إِذَا حَضَرَ الْعَشَاءُ وَأُقِيمَتِ الصَّلَاةُ، فابْدَءُوا بِالْعَشَاءِ»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) as a marfu' report (from the Prophet): "When the meal is served and the prayer has begun, eat first."
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْعَبَّاسِ الْمُؤَدِّبُ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الصَّبَّاحِ الدُّولابِيُّ، ثنا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ زَكَرِيَّا، ح وَحَدَّثَنَا مَحْمُودُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْوَاسِطِيُّ، ثنا زَكَرِيَّا بْنُ يَحْيَى زَحْمَوَيْهِ، ثنا صَالِحُ بْنُ عُمَرَ، كِلَاهُمَا، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي زِيَادٍ، عَنْ مِقْسَمٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ: أَهْدَى الصَّعْبُ بْنُ جَثَّامَةَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حِمَارَ وَحْشٍ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «رُدُّوهُ فَإِنَّا مُحْرِمُونَ»
Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: Al-Sa'b bin Jaththamah (may Allah be pleased with him) presented the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) with a wild donkey as a gift, so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Return it, for we are in ihram."
حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدٌ الْعِجْلُ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ الْمُحَارِبِيُّ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ الْأَجْلَحِ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي زِيَادٍ، عَنْ مِقْسَمٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «لَا تَأْذَنُ امْرَأَةٌ فِي بَيْتِ زَوْجِهَا إِلَّا بِإِذْنِهِ، وَلَا تَقُومُ مِنْ فِرَاشِهَا فَتُصَلِّيَ تَطَوُّعًا إِلَّا بِإِذْنِهِ»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A woman should not admit anyone into her husband's house without his permission, and she should not rise from her bed to offer a voluntary prayer without his permission."
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْفَضْلِ السَّقَطِيُّ، ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، عَنْ صَالِحِ بْنِ عُمَرَ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي زِيَادٍ، عَنْ مِقْسَمٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ: «كُفِّنَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي حُلَّةٍ حَمْرَاءَ نَجْرَانِيَّةٍ كَانَ يَلْبَسُهَا، وَقَمِيصٍ»
Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was shrouded in a red Najrani garment that he (peace and blessings be upon him) used to wear, and in a shirt.
حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ بْنُ غَنَّامٍ، ثنا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ إِدْرِيسَ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي زِيَادٍ، عَنْ مِقْسَمٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ: " كُفِّنَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي ثَلَاثَةِ أَثْوَابٍ: فِي قَمِيصِهِ الَّذِي مَاتَ، وَحُلَّةٍ أَنْبِجَانِيَّةٍ "
Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was shrouded in three garments: in the shirt in which he (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away, and in an Anbijani garment."
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدُوسٍ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ بْنِ أَبَانَ، ثنا حُسَيْنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الْجُعْفِيُّ، عَنْ زَائِدَةَ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي زِيَادٍ، عَنْ مِقْسَمٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ: «كُفِّنَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي حُلَّةٍ كَانَ يَلْبَسُهَا وَقَمِيصٍ، غَسَّلَهُ الْفَضْلُ وَرَجُلٌ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ، وَكَانَ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ يَصُبُّ عَلَيْهِمُ الْمَاءَ، وَيَغْسِلُ تَحْتَ الثَّوْبِ، وَغُسِّلَ وَعَلَيْهِ قَمِيصٌ لَمْ يُنْزَعْ عَنْهُ حَتَّى غُسِّلَ»
Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was shrouded in a garment that he (peace and blessings be upon him) used to wear and in a shirt. Al-Fadl (may Allah be pleased with him) and a man from the Ansar washed him (peace and blessings be upon him); the Ansari kept pouring water over them and washing beneath the cloth. He (peace and blessings be upon him) was washed while wearing a shirt, which was not removed until the washing was complete.
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ طَرِيفٍ، ثنا عِمْرَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي زِيَادٍ، عَنْ مِقْسَمٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ: «لَعَنَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْمُخَنَّثِينَ مِنَ الرِّجَالِ، وَالْمُتَرَجِّلَاتِ مِنَ النِّسَاءِ»
Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) cursed the effeminate among men and the masculine among women."
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ الْأَنْمَاطِيُّ، ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ مَعِينٍ، ثنا هُشَيْمٌ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي زِيَادٍ، عَنْ مِقْسَمٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «اللهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِلْمُحَلِّقِينَ» فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ: وَلِلْمُقَصِّرِينَ، قَالَ: «اللهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِلْمُحَلِّقِينَ» فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ: وَلِلْمُقَصِّرِينَ، فَقَالَ فِي الثَّالِثَةِ، أَوِ الرَّابِعَةِ: «وَلِلْمُقَصِّرِينَ»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Allah, forgive those who shave their heads." A man said: And those who shorten their hair too. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said again: "O Allah, forgive those who shave their heads." The man said again: And those who shorten their hair too. Then on the third or fourth time he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "And those who shorten their hair too."
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبَانَ الْأَصْبَهَانِيُّ، ثنا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ شَيْبَةَ الْوَاسِطِيُّ، ثنا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ، أَنَا شَرِيكٌ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي زِيَادٍ، عَنْ مِقْسَمٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، رَفَعَهُ قَالَ: «مَا نَقَصَتْ صَدَقَةٌ مِنْ مَالٍ قَطُّ، وَمَا مَدَّ عَبْدٌ يَدَهُ بِصَدَقَةٍ إِلَّا أُلْقِيَتْ بِيَدِ اللهِ قَبْلَ أَنْ تَقَعَ فِي يَدِ السَّائِلِ، وَلَا فَتْحَ عَبْدٌ بَابَ مَسْأَلَةٍ لَهُ عَنْهَا غِنًى إِلَّا فَتَحَ اللهُ عَلَيْهِ بَابَ فَقْرٍ»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) as a marfu' report (from the Prophet): "Charity never decreases wealth. No servant extends his hand with charity except that it is placed in the Hand of Allah before it reaches the hand of the one who asks. And no servant opens a door of begging without need except that Allah opens upon him a door of poverty."
حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، أَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، أَنَا مَعْمَرٌ، عَنْ عُثْمَانَ الْجَزَرِيِّ، عَنْ مِقْسَمٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ: «أَوَّلُ مَنْ أَسْلَمَ عَلِيٌّ»
Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "The first to accept Islam was Ali."
وَبِهِ مِثْلُهُ سَوَاءٌ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، «قُتِلَ حَمْزَةُ يَوْمَ أُحُدٍ، وَقُتِلَ مَعَهُ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ فَجَاءَتْهُ صَفِيَّةُ بِنْتُ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ بِثَوْبَيْنِ لِيُكَفَّنَ فِيهِمَا حَمْزَةُ، فَلَمْ يَكُنْ لِلْأَنْصَارِيِّ كَفَنٌ فَأَسْهَمَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بَيْنَ الثَّوْبَيْنِ، ثُمَّ كُفِّنَ كُلُّ وَاحِدٍ مِنْهُمَا فِي ثَوْبٍ»
Through the same chain it is narrated: On the day of Uhud, Hamzah (may Allah be pleased with him) was martyred, and a man from the Ansar was martyred along with him. Sayyidah Safiyyah bint Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with her) brought two garments so that Hamzah (may Allah be pleased with him) could be shrouded in them, but the Ansari had no shroud. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) cast lots between the two garments, and then each of them was shrouded in one garment.
حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ، عَنْ عُثْمَانَ الْجَزَرِيِّ، عَنْ مِقْسَمٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ: «دَخَلَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْبَيْتَ فَدَعَا فِي نَوَاحِيهِ، ثُمَّ خَرَجَ فَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) entered the Ka'bah and supplicated in its corners, then came out and prayed two rak'ahs.
حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الدَّبَرِيُّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، قَالَ: وَأَخْبَرَنِي عُثْمَانُ الْجَزَرِيُّ، عَنْ مِقْسَمٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ: فَادَى النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أُسَارَى بَدْرٍ، وَكَانَ فِدَاءُ كُلِّ وَاحِدٍ مِنْهُمْ أَرْبَعَةَ آلَافٍ، وَقُتِلَ عُقْبَةُ بْنُ أَبِي مُعَيْطٍ قَبْلَ الْفِدَاءِ قَامَ إِلَيْهِ عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ فَقَتَلَهُ صَبْرًا فَقَالَ: مَنْ لِلصِّبْيَةِ يَا مُحَمَّدُ؟ قَالَ: «النَّارُ»
Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) released the captives of Badr for ransom, and the ransom for each of them was four thousand (dirhams). Uqbah bin Abi Mu'ayt was killed before the ransom was taken: Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) rose to him and killed him while he was bound. He said: O Muhammad, what will become of (my) children? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The Fire."
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ الْمُسْتَمْلِيُّ، ثنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْمَدِينِيِّ، أَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، أَنَا مَعْمَرٌ، عَنْ عُثْمَانَ الْجَزَرِيِّ، عَنْ مِقْسَمٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، فِي قَوْلِهِ {وَإِذْ يَمْكُرُ بِكَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا لِيُثْبِتُوكَ} [الأنفال: ٣٠] قَالَ: " تَشَاوَرَتْ قُرَيْشٌ لَيْلَةً بِمَكَّةَ فَقَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ: أَثْبِتُوهُ بِالْوَثَائِقِ يُرِيدُونَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، وَقَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ: اقْتُلُوهُ وَقَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ: أَخْرِجُوهُ، فَأَطْلَعَ اللهُ نَبِيَّهُ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى ذَلِكَ فَبَاتَ عَلِيٌّ عَلَى فِرَاشِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ تِلْكَ اللَّيْلَةَ، وَخَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَتَّى لَحِقَ بِالْغَارِ، وَبَاتَ الْمُشْرِكُونَ يَحْرُسُونَ عَلِيًّا رَضِي اللهُ عَنْهُ يَحْسِبُونَ أَنَّهُ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَلَمَّا أَصْبَحُوا ثَارُوا إِلَيْهِ فَلَمَّا رَأَوْا عَلِيًّا رَدَّ اللهُ مَكْرَهُمْ، فَقَالُوا: أَيْنَ صَاحِبُكَ؟ قَالَ: لَا أَدْرِي فَاقْتَصُّوا أَثَرَهُ فَلَمَّا بَلَغُوا الْجَبَلَ اخْتَلَطَ عَلَيْهِمْ فَصَعِدُوا الْجَبَلَ فَمَرُّوا بِالْغَارِ فَإِذَا عَلَى بَابِهِ نسيجُ الْعَنْكَبُوتِ فَمَكَثَ فِيهِ ثَلَاثًا "
Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said concerning the saying of Allah Almighty: "And when those who disbelieved plotted against you to imprison you" [Surah al-Anfal: 30]: Quraysh held counsel one night in Makkah. Some of them said: Bind him (meaning the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)) with ropes and imprison him. Some said: Kill him. And some said: Expel him (from the city). Allah Almighty informed His Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) of this plot, so that night Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) slept in the bed of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) went out until he reached the cave. The polytheists spent the night watching Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), thinking he was the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). When morning came they rushed at him, but when they saw Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), Allah Almighty foiled their scheme. They asked: Where is your companion? Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I do not know. So they followed his (peace and blessings be upon him) tracks, and when they reached the mountain the trail became unclear to them. They climbed the mountain and passed by the cave, and saw a spider's web spun across its entrance. He (peace and blessings be upon him) stayed in that cave for three days.
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ حَنْبَلٍ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو عُبَيْدَةَ بْنُ فُضَيْلِ بْنِ عِيَاضٍ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مُعَاذٍ الصَّنْعَانِيُّ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ، عَنْ عُثْمَانَ الْجَزَرِيِّ، عَنْ مِقْسَمٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ: بَعَثَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عُرْوَةَ بْنَ مَسْعُودٍ إِلَى الطَّائِفِ فَرَمَاهُ رَجُلٌ بِسَهْمٍ فَقَتَلَهُ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «مَا أَشْبَهُ هَذَا بِصَاحِبِ يس»
Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent Sayyiduna Urwah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) to Ta'if, and a man shot him with an arrow and martyred him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "How closely he resembles the man of Ya-Sin."
