Sayyida Asma bint Umais (may Allah be pleased with her) says: We adorned and sent one of the wives to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) after marriage. When we went to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he took out a glass of milk and drank from it, then gave it to his wife. She said: I do not wish to drink. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not combine hunger and falsehood." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave me the cup after drinking from it. I passed it around to everyone, and I touched it to my lips so that the traces from the Prophet’s (peace and blessings be upon him) lips would reach me. Then we left the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and his wife and returned.

´It was narrated that Asma’ bint Yazid said:` “Some food was brought to the Prophet (ﷺ) and it was offered to us. We said: ‘We do not have any appetite for it.’ He said: ‘Do not combine hunger and lies.’”

Benefits and Issues: ➊ Offering food to those present while eating is a good habit.
➋ When food is offered, one should not hesitate to accept it if hungry.
➌ If not hungry, there is no harm in not accepting such an offer. One should express gratitude; however, it is better to take a bite or two.
➍ Lying is not good even in situations of formality. One should adopt some other appropriate manner for excusing oneself.
