The hadith narrated from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her), in which there is mention of her smearing the blessed face of Sayyidah Sawdah (may Allah be pleased with her) with "khazirah" (a particular Arab dish prepared from finely cut pieces of meat and flour), will come in detail, if Allah wills, in the section on the virtues and merits of Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him).
[This is a cross-reference text, whose full details are mentioned later in their proper place.]

It is narrated from Sayyidah Razinah (may Allah be pleased with her), the freed slave woman of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), that Sayyidah Sawdah (may Allah be pleased with her) came to Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) to visit her, and at that time Sayyidah Hafsah bint Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) was also with her. Sayyidah Sawdah (may Allah be pleased with her) had come in a very fine condition and the best appearance: she was wearing a shift made of striped Yemeni cloth and a head-covering of the same kind, and in the two corners of her eyes there were two marks, the size of lentils, of aloes and saffron. The narrator Ulaylah said: I have seen women adorning themselves in this way. Sayyidah Hafsah (may Allah be pleased with her) said to Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her): "O Mother of the Believers, when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) comes, he will find us plain and unkempt, while this one shines and sparkles between us?" Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "O Hafsah, fear Allah! O Hafsah, fear Allah!" She said: "I will certainly spoil this finery of hers." Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said (perhaps jokingly): "Then do so." Sayyidah Sawdah (may Allah be pleased with her) asked: "What are you two saying?" There was some heaviness in her ears, that is, she was hard of hearing. Sayyidah Hafsah (may Allah be pleased with her) said to her: "O Sawdah, the one-eyed one (the Dajjal) has come out!" She asked (terrified): "Really?" Then she became extremely frightened and her body began to tremble, and she asked: "Where shall I hide?" Hafsah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "Go into that tent." It was a shelter of theirs made of palm leaves in which they used to cook food. She went and hid there, where there were cooking pots, spiders' webs and the like. Meanwhile the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came, and the two of them (Sayyidah Aishah and Hafsah) were laughing so much that, overcome by laughter, they were unable to speak. He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked three times: "What is this laughter?" So they pointed with their hands towards the tent. He (peace and blessings be upon him) went there and saw that Sayyidah Sawdah (may Allah be pleased with her) was trembling from intense fear. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said to her: "O Sawdah, what is the matter with you?" She said: "O Messenger of Allah, the one-eyed one (the Dajjal) has come out." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "He has not come out yet, but he will certainly come out. He has not come out yet, but he will certainly come out. He has not come out yet, but he will certainly come out." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) went in and brought her out, and began to shake off the dust and spiders' webs from her body and clothing.
Abu Ya'la narrated this hadith in his Musnad; however, it is da'if (weak) in its chain because the condition of the narrator Ulaylah and her mother Aminah is unknown, though its text presents a glimpse of the mutual humour of the Mothers of the Believers and of domestic life.
