Chapter: Prohibition of sitting with the Khawarij and those who leave the religion
Al-Matalib al-'Aliyah 2994-2 — Prohibition of sitting
وَلَهُ طَرِيقٌ أُخْرَى أَخْرَجَهَا الْبَزَّارُ ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ شَرِيكٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ : كُنَّا عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَتَّى أَقْبَلَ رَجُلٌ حَسَنُ السَّمْتِ ، ذَكَرُوا مِنْ أَمْرِهِ أَمْرًا حَسَنًا ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : إِنِّي أَرَى عَلَى وَجْهِهِ سَفْعَةً مِنَ النَّارِ فَلَمَّا انْتَهَى فَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : بِاللهِ - أَظُنُّهُ قَالَ - : هَلْ قُلْتَ فِي نَفْسِكَ إِنَّكَ أَفْضَلُ الْقَوْمِ ؟ قَالَ : نَعَمْ ، فَلَمَّا ذَهَبَ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : إِنَّهُ قَدْ طَلَعَ قَرْنُ هَذَا وَأَصْحَابُهُ مِنْهُمْ ، قَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ : أَفَلَا أَقْتُلُهُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ؟ قَالَ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : بَلَى فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ نَحْوَ مَا تَقَدَّمَ بِاخْتِصَارٍ .
وَآخِرُهُ فَانْطَلَقَ عَلِيٌّ رِضْوَانُ اللهِ عَلَيْهِ ، فَلَمْ يَجِدْهُ وَذَكَرَ مَا بَعْدَهُ .
قَالَ الْبَزَّارُ : لَا نَعْلَمُهُ يُرْوَى عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ إِلَّا مِنْ هَذَا الْوَجْهِ تَفَرَّدَ بِهِ شَرِيكٌ ، قُلْتُ : قَدْ خُولِفَ فِيهِ كَمَا تَقَدَّمَ ، فَقِيلَ عَنْ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ وَقَدْ رُوِيَ مِنْ غَيْرِ حَدِيثِ شَرِيكٍ كَمَا تَرَى بِإِسْنَادٍ آخَرَ إِلَى أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ .
وَفِي الْبَابِ عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ عِنْدَ أَحْمَدَ وَغَيْرِهِ .
وَآخِرُهُ فَانْطَلَقَ عَلِيٌّ رِضْوَانُ اللهِ عَلَيْهِ ، فَلَمْ يَجِدْهُ وَذَكَرَ مَا بَعْدَهُ .
قَالَ الْبَزَّارُ : لَا نَعْلَمُهُ يُرْوَى عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ إِلَّا مِنْ هَذَا الْوَجْهِ تَفَرَّدَ بِهِ شَرِيكٌ ، قُلْتُ : قَدْ خُولِفَ فِيهِ كَمَا تَقَدَّمَ ، فَقِيلَ عَنْ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ وَقَدْ رُوِيَ مِنْ غَيْرِ حَدِيثِ شَرِيكٍ كَمَا تَرَى بِإِسْنَادٍ آخَرَ إِلَى أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ .
وَفِي الْبَابِ عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ عِنْدَ أَحْمَدَ وَغَيْرِهِ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: We were in the presence of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when a man came forward who outwardly appeared to be of very pious bearing and good manners, and the people said good words about him. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, I see on his face the trace of the blackness of Hell." Then, when the man came near and gave the greeting of peace, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked him (the narrator said: I think he (peace and blessings be upon him) asked him by adjuring him by Allah): "Did you think to yourself that you are the best and most excellent of this whole gathering?" He replied: "Yes." Then, when the man turned his back and went away, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, the horn of this (trial) has appeared, and his companions will be of his faction." Sayyiduna Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Shall I not kill him?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes (certainly)." Then the narrator related the rest of the story briefly, like the previous narration.
At the end of this narration it is mentioned that Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) set off (to kill him) but could not find him, and then he mentioned what came after that. Imam al-Bazzar (may Allah have mercy on him) said: To our knowledge this hadith is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) only through this chain, and the narrator named Sharik is alone in narrating it. I (Ibn Hajar, the author) say: Sharik has also been contradicted in this narration, as mentioned earlier, for it has also been narrated by way of Abu Sufyan from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him); although, apart from Sharik's narration, it is also narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) himself through another chain, as you can see. And on this subject, a narration from Sayyiduna Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him) is also found with Imam Ahmad and other hadith scholars.
