´It was narrated from Anas bin Malik that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:` “The people of Hell will be made to weep and they will weep until they run out of tears. Then they will weep blood until something like trenches appear on their faces, and if ships were placed in them they would float.”

Benefits and Issues:
➊
The mentioned narration is weak in its chain of transmission, as clarified by the scholars who have investigated this matter. However, except for the phrase in the hadith (حَتّٰی یَصِیْرٌ فيِ وُجُوْهِهِمْ کَهَیْئَةِ الاُخْدُود) — “until there appear on their faces marks like trenches” — the rest of the narration has a corroborating report in al-Mustadrak al-Hakim, and its chain is also hasan (good), as our esteemed researchers have also indicated. And Shaykh al-Albani has declared it sahih (authentic). Therefore, except for the statement “because of the weeping of the people of Hell, there will appear on their faces marks like trenches,” the rest of the narration is authentic. For further details, see: (al-Silsilah al-Sahihah by al-Albani: no. 1679 2)
➋
In Hell, there are various kinds of punishments, among which is the punishment of grief and regret, which causes weeping.
➌
In this world, weeping lightens grief, but in Hell, weeping itself will be a punishment. Therefore, it will not bring any relief from sorrow.
➍
Weeping out of fear of Allah in this world leads to Paradise in the Hereafter. Those who spend their lives heedlessly laughing in this world will weep more in Hell.
