Hadith 4322

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ , حَدَّثَنَا بَكْرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ , حَدَّثَنَا عِيسَى بْنُ الْمُخْتَارِ , عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى , عَنْ عَطِيَّةَ الْعَوْفِيِّ , عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ , عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنَّ الْكَافِرَ لَيَعْظُمُ حَتَّى إِنَّ ضِرْسَهُ لَأَعْظَمُ مِنْ أُحُدٍ , فَضِيلَةُ جَسَدِهِ عَلَى ضِرْسِهِ , كَفَضِيلَةِ جَسَدِ أَحَدِكُمْ عَلَى ضِرْسِهِ " .
´It was narrated from Abu Sa’eed Al-Khudri that the Prophet (ﷺ) said:` “The disbeliever will be made huge so much so that his molar will be bigger than (Mount) Uhud, and the size of his body in relation to his molar will be like the size of the body of anyone of you in relation to his molar.”

Hadith Takhrij «تفرد بہ ابن ماجہ ، ( تحفة الأشراف : 4240 ، ومصباح الزجاجة : 1545 ) ( ضعیف ) » ( عطیہ العوفی اور محمد بن عبد الرحمن بن أبی لیلیٰ ضعیف ہیں ، لیکن پہلا ٹکڑا ثابت ہے ، «وفضيلة جسده» الخ ثابت نہیں ہے )

Our esteemed researcher has declared the chain of narration of the mentioned hadith to be weak.
And he has further written that the first sentence of the mentioned hadith (inna al-kafir... min ahad) is authentic based on supporting evidences, and this is also the opinion of the scholars regarding this narration.
Therefore, only the first sentence of the mentioned narration is authentic.

The enlargement of the bodies of the inhabitants of Hell is itself a form of punishment.


It is stated in the Noble Qur’an that the inhabitants of Hell will be cast into a narrow place. See: (Furqan 13:25) ()
Due to the enlargement of the body, the place will also feel constricted.


The purpose of making their stature so great is to increase the punishment.
