1؎: Some people have the habit that when someone offers them food, despite being hungry, they say: “I have no desire.” The Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) forbade this. If one is hungry, one should eat; otherwise, by lying, one remains hungry and becomes subject to punishment.
Explanation & Benefits
Maulana Ataullah Sajid
Benefits and Issues: ➊ Offering food to those present while eating is a good habit.
➋ When food is offered, one should not hesitate to accept it if hungry.
➌ If not hungry, there is no harm in not accepting such an offer. One should express gratitude; however, it is better to take a bite or two.
➍ Lying is not good even in situations of formality. One should adopt some other appropriate manner for excusing oneself.
