Hadith Commentary:
Many people from the tribes of Asad and Ghatafan became apostates after the passing of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) and followed Talhah bin Khuwailid al-Asadi, who had falsely claimed prophethood after the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam).
When Khalid bin Walid (radi Allahu anhu) was finished with the trial of Musaylimah the Liar, he turned his attention to these people, and eventually he prevailed over them.
They, being helpless and powerless, sent a delegation to Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (radi Allahu anhu); this is what is referred to as the "Delegation of Buzakhah."
Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (radi Allahu anhu) said:
"Choose war, the result of which is exile, or accept a humiliating peace."
They asked:
"What is meant by a humiliating peace?" So he replied:
"Hand over your weapons and war equipment to us.
Your spoils will be distributed among the Muslims, and you must pay blood money (diyah) for those who were killed during the battle. As for those of your people who were killed, consider them as destined for Hellfire. Then, being homeless, continue herding camels in the wilderness until Allah shows His command to the Caliph of His Prophet and the Muhajirun, by which they may consider you excused."
