Narrated Anas bin Malik: The Prophet offered the Zuhr, `Asr, Maghrib and `Isha' prayers and slept for a while at a place called Al-Mahassab and then he rode towards the Ka`ba and performed Tawaf (al-Wada`).

Hadith Commentary:
Someone has beautifully said:
I pass by the dwellings, the dwellings of Layla,
And it is not the love of the dwellings that has captivated my heart.
I kiss this wall and that wall,
But rather, it is the love of the one who dwells in these dwellings.

Hadith Commentary:
(1)
Muhassab, Abtah, Batha, Dhi Tuwa, and Khayf Banu Kinana are all the same place.
It is the name of a vast plain between Makkah and Mina.

(2)
Imam Bukhari rahimahullah’s intent is to show that after completing Hajj, performing the Asr prayer in the valley of Abtah is prescribed, but it has no connection to the rites of Hajj themselves.
The circumambulation (tawaf) mentioned in the narration refers to the Farewell Tawaf (Tawaf al-Wada‘).
Anas radi Allahu anhu instructed his student that one should not oppose the rulers based on such matters, but rather, obedience to them should be given preference in every situation, provided it does not contradict the Book and the Sunnah.
Further clarification of this will come in the next chapter.
