Hadith Commentary:
(1)
This narration shows that the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), after completing the rites of Hajj, would perform the Farewell Circumambulation (Tawaf al-Wada‘) of the House of Allah and then depart for Madinah Tayyibah. According to the majority of scholars, the Farewell Circumambulation (Tawaf al-Wada‘) is obligatory (wajib), and if it is omitted, a compensatory sacrifice (dam) becomes obligatory. However, Imam Malik has considered it a Sunnah. According to him, it is not necessary to offer a compensatory sacrifice (dam) if it is omitted. Ibn al-Mundhir has also considered it obligatory (wajib), but he says that omitting it does not necessitate a compensatory sacrifice (dam). In any case, the last act before departure should be the Farewell Circumambulation (Tawaf al-Wada‘). However, if due to some necessity one has to go to the market, there is no harm in it.

(2)
At the end of the hadith, the corroboration (mutaba‘at) mentioned by Imam Bukhari (rahimahullah) has been narrated by al-Bazzar and al-Tabarani with a connected chain of transmission, although there is singularity (tafarrud) found in it. (Fath al-Bari: 3/739)

(3)
Another name for the Farewell Circumambulation (Tawaf al-Wada‘) is Tawaf al-Sadr. The Valley of Muhassab is a vast plain area between Makkah and Mina. It is also called Abtah and Khayf Banu Kinana. And Allah knows best.
