Hadith Commentary:
(1)
‘Ahn’ refers to colored wool.
(2)
Some people are of the opinion that the garlands for sacrificial animals, etc., should be made from agricultural produce such as cotton and similar items, as is narrated from Rabi‘ah and Imam Malik.
Imam Bukhari rahimahullah refuted their view, stating that the garlands for sacrificial animals can be made from wool and hair, etc.
These garlands are for the purpose of honor and as a sign, so that people along the way do not interfere with them.
(Fath al-Bari: 3/692)
Because Allah, the Exalted, has made animals adorned with garlands a means of security and has commanded us to honor and respect them.
