Shaykh Abdul Sattar al-Hammad
Hadith Commentary:
(1)
On the days of sacrifice, the first act is to perform the stoning (rami) of Jamrah Aqabah.
One should continue to recite the talbiyah and takbir until the stoning is performed.
(2)
Now, three issues are discussed here:
➊ The narration presented by Imam Bukhari rahimahullah mentions the talbiyah, whereas in the chapter heading he also mentions the takbir.
In reality, Imam Bukhari rahimahullah, through the chapter heading, alludes to the hadith in which the takbir is also mentioned.
Imam Ahmad has narrated this hadith from Abdullah radi Allahu anhu, who says: I went out with the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, and he did not cease reciting the talbiyah until he performed the stoning of Jamrah Aqabah.
Sometimes, while reciting the talbiyah, he would also say "Allahu Akbar."
(Musnad Ahmad: 1/417)
➋ When should the talbiyah be stopped? At the beginning of the stoning or after it is completed? In Sahih Ibn Khuzaymah, this is clarified: the talbiyah should continue until the last pebble is thrown. Thus, Fadl bin Abbas radi Allahu anhu says: I returned from Arafat with the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, and he continued to recite the talbiyah until he stoned the last jamrah. When throwing the pebbles, he would say "Allahu Akbar," and he continued the talbiyah until the last pebble was thrown.
(Sahih Ibn Khuzaymah: 4/282, Hadith: 2887)
➌ The time for stoning Jamrah Aqabah is after sunrise. Thus, Imam Ibn al-Mundhir says: The stoning of the jamarat should be done after sunrise, as is established from the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, and it is not correct to perform the stoning before dawn.
Whoever does so will be opposing the Sunnah.
However, if someone does it, then there is no need to repeat the stoning, because I do not know of anyone who considers it insufficient.
(Fath al-Bari: 3/668)
It should be noted that Usamah bin Zayd radi Allahu anhu was also with the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam when he performed the stoning of Jamrah Aqabah. Thus, Umm Husayn radi Allahu anha says: I saw Usamah bin Zayd and Bilal radi Allahu anhu during the Farewell Pilgrimage; one of them was holding the reins of the Messenger of Allah’s sallallahu alayhi wa sallam camel, and the other was shading him with a cloth from the heat, until he finished the stoning of Jamrah Aqabah.
(Sahih Muslim, Book of Hajj, Hadith: 3138(1298))
