And my mother informed me that she, her sister, Az-Zubair and such and such persons had assumed lhram for `Umra and after passing their hands over the Corner (the Black Stone) (i.e. finishing their Umra) they finished their Ihram.

Hadith Commentary:
According to the majority of scholars, purification (taharah), that is, being in a state of ablution (wudu), is a condition for performing tawaf.

What Muhammad bin Abdur Rahman bin Nawfal asked ‘Urwah is not mentioned in this narration.
However, in the narration of Imam Muslim, it is stated that an Iraqi said to Muhammad bin Abdur Rahman: “Ask ‘Urwah, if a person puts on the ihram for Hajj, can he become halal (exit the state of ihram) after performing tawaf?” And if he says that it is not possible, then say, “There is a person who says that it is possible to become halal.”

Muhammad bin Abdur Rahman said: I asked ‘Urwah, and he replied: “Whoever puts on the ihram for Hajj cannot become halal until he completes the rites of Hajj.”

I said: “There is a person who says that he does become halal.”

He (‘Urwah) said: “He has said a bad thing.”

Up to the end of the hadith.
