Narrated Nafi`: Whenever Ibn `Umar entered the Ka`ba he used to walk straight keeping the door at his back on entering, and used to proceed on till about three cubits from the wall in front of him, and then he would offer the prayer there aiming at the place where Allah's Apostle prayed, as Bilal had told him. There is no harm for any person to offer the prayer at any place inside the Ka`ba.

Hadith Commentary:
(1)
All sides of the Ka'bah are of equal status for performing prayer inside it.
Although, according to the indication of Bilal (radi Allahu anhu), the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) prayed between two pillars towards the Yemeni Corner (Rukn Yamani), this specification was not intentional but coincidental; doing so does not contradict the permissibility of choice.
Even if you had done so intentionally, it would not have been to the level of obligation.
(2)
This hadith has already been mentioned previously.
Imam Bukhari (rahimahullah) has established a chapter on this with the following words:
(Bab al-salat bayna al-sawari fi ghayr jama‘ah)
"Praying individually between the pillars (of the mosque) without congregation is permissible."
(Sahih al-Bukhari, al-Salat, Chapter: 96)
Regarding the explanatory statement at the end of the hadith, there is a possibility that it is from Ibn Umar (radi Allahu anhu) or that another narrator considered it necessary to provide this clarification.
