Hadith Commentary:
In the above hadith, the word "afhaj" appears, and "afhaj" is one who walks with a swagger, or whose two toes remain close together while there is a gap between his two heels as he walks.
That rejected Abyssinian who will demolish the Ka'bah near the Day of Judgment will have this appearance.
In another narration, it is mentioned that his eyes will be blue, his nose will be flat, and his belly will be large.
There will be other people with him; they will uproot the Ka'bah stone by stone and carry them to the sea and throw them there.
This will occur very close to the Day of Judgment.
May Allah protect (us) from every tribulation, Ameen.
This hadith has been recorded by Ahmad through the route of Sa'id ibn Sam'an from Abu Hurayrah with a more complete context than this, and its wording is: "Allegiance will be given to a man between the Corner and the Station (of Ibrahim), and none will violate the sanctity of this House except its own people. When they violate it, then do not ask about the destruction of the Arabs. Then the Abyssinians will come and they will destroy it with a destruction after which it will never be rebuilt. They are the ones who will extract its treasure." And Abu Qurrah has in the Sunan, through another route from Abu Hurayrah, marfu‘: "The treasure of the Ka'bah will not be extracted except by Dhu al-Suwayqatayn from Abyssinia." And something similar is narrated by Abu Dawud from the hadith of Abdullah ibn Amr ibn al-As. Ahmad and al-Tabarani have added through the route of Mujahid from him: "He will strip it of its adornments and remove its covering. It is as if I am looking at him: bald-headed, with deformed legs, striking it with his mattock or his pickaxe."
It has been said that this hadith contradicts the saying of Allah, the Exalted: "Have they not seen that We have made a secure sanctuary?" And because Allah withheld the elephant from Mecca and did not allow its people to destroy the Ka'bah, and at that time it was not even the qiblah, so how will the Abyssinians be given power over it after it has become the qiblah for the Muslims? The answer is that this is to be understood as occurring at the end of time, near the establishment of the Hour, when there will remain on earth no one who says "Allah, Allah," as is established in Sahih Muslim: "The Hour will not be established until it is no longer said on earth: Allah, Allah."
Some atheists have objected to the previous hadith, saying: How is it that the sins of the polytheists blackened it, but the acts of obedience of the people of tawhid did not whiten it? The answer is what Ibn Qutaybah said: If Allah had willed, it would have been so, but Allah has made it customary that black dye stains in the opposite way to white.

Hadith Commentary:
(1)
This incident will occur after the return and passing away of ‘Isa (alayhis salam), when the Qur’anic teachings will be removed from people’s hearts. The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) was shown the scene of the destruction of the Ka‘bah, and then he informed his ummah of this eyewitness event: that the one who will demolish the Ka‘bah will be a black-skinned Abyssinian who will walk with arrogance and pride. In his gait, his toes will be close together, but there will be a gap between his heels. He will be bald-headed, with a flat nose, a large belly, and he will come holding a spear in his hand. Along with him will be other people of the same kind, who, under his leadership, will utterly demolish the House of Allah, removing each and every stone and throwing them into the sea. And this will happen right at the approach of the Hour (Qiyamah).
(2)
In Musnad Ahmad, this narration is mentioned in a bit more detail: a man will be pledged allegiance to between Maqam Ibrahim and the Yemeni Corner (Rukn Yamani), and it will be the Muslims themselves who will first consider the House of Allah lawful for themselves. When such events occur, the destruction of the Arabs will be near. After that, the Abyssinians will come, who will uproot every stone of it and take out its treasures. After this, the Ka‘bah will never be inhabited again. (Musnad Ahmad: 2/291, and al-Sahihah, Hadith: 2743) In another narration, it is mentioned that they will take out the gold and silver ornaments present in it and will also remove its covering, as if I am still seeing that bald, black-skinned Abyssinian with thin shins, with a spear in his hand, with which he is uprooting the stones of the House of Allah. (Musnad Ahmad: 2/220)
(3)
It should be clear that this incident of destruction will occur right at the approach of the Hour (Qiyamah), when there will not remain a single person on earth who mentions the name of Allah. Therefore, this incident is not contrary to the Ka‘bah being a sanctuary of peace and security, because there is no mention anywhere that its peace and security will remain until the Day of Judgment.
