Hadith 718
It was asked from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) about a man who married a woman, neither fixed her dowry nor had intercourse with her, and then died. Alqama says: You returned them, then said: I am only presenting my opinion in this matter. If it is correct, then it is from Allah, and if it is wrong, then it is from myself. My opinion is that she will receive a dowry equal to that of women like her, neither less nor more. She will also be entitled to inheritance and 'iddah will also be obligatory upon her. Sayyiduna Ma'qil bin Sinan Ashja'i (may Allah be pleased with him) stood up and said: I bear witness that you have given the same verdict as the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) gave regarding the woman Barwa' bint Washiq of Banu Ruwas. Banu Ruwas is a clan of Banu Amir bin Sa'sa'ah.

Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) obtained captives from Banu Mustaliq, Lady Juwayriya bint al-Harith (may Allah be pleased with her) came into the share of Thabit bin Qais bin Shamas (may Allah be pleased with him) or his cousin. Lady Juwayriya (may Allah be pleased with her) made a contract of manumission (i.e., set a price for her freedom) with him. She was a very beautiful woman; whoever saw her, she would settle in his heart. She came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) to seek help for her manumission. Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) says: By Allah! When I saw her at the door of the chamber, I disliked it, and I was sure that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would also see in her the quality (beauty) that I am seeing. She said: O Messenger of Allah! I am Juwayriya, the daughter of Harith bin Abi Dhirar, who is the chief of his people. The distress that has come upon me is not hidden from you. I have come into the share of Thabit bin Qais or his cousin, and I have made a contract of manumission with him. I have come to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) to seek help for my manumission. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Would you like something better than that? She asked: O Messenger of Allah! What is that (better)? He said: I will pay your manumission amount and marry you. She said: That is fine. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I have done this. The news spread among the people that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had married Juwayriya bint al-Harith (may Allah be pleased with her). People began to say: They have become the in-laws of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Thus, they freed all the captives of Banu Mustaliq who were in their possession. The marriage of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) with Lady Juwayriya (may Allah be pleased with her) freed a hundred families of Banu Mustaliq. We do not know of any woman who proved to be more blessed for her people than her.

Sayyida Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that I heard a statement (hadith) from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) which is dearer to me than receiving (so much) wealth: Whoever is afflicted by a calamity... etc., she mentioned part of the hadith. The narrator says: Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent her a marriage proposal, so she said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) is most welcome (i.e., I accept your proposal), but there are three matters because of which I fear marrying the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): I am a woman of intense jealousy (anger), I have no guardian to marry me off, and I am a woman with children. When Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) heard this, he became so angry for the sake of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that he had never been so angry even for his own sake. Her (Umm Salamah’s) words reached the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), so he came to her and said: As for the jealousy (anger) you mentioned, I will pray to Allah Almighty that He removes your jealousy. As for the matter of children you mentioned, Allah Almighty will suffice them. And as for your saying that you have no guardian here to marry you to me, then none of your guardians will dislike me, whether he is present or absent. Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) said to her son: Marry me to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), so he married her to him.

It was asked: A virgin girl remains silent out of shyness? He said: Her silence is her permission. In the narration of Mukhrami: She feels shy, so the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: That is her permission.

Sayyiduna Mughirah bin Shu’bah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that I sent a marriage proposal to a woman, so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) asked me: Have you seen her? I replied: No! He said: Look at her, for it is more likely that affection will develop between you.

Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do not artificially raise prices (by bidding to increase the price), no townsman should sell for a villager, no man should make a deal over the deal of his (Muslim) brother, no man should propose over the proposal of his (Muslim) brother, and no woman should demand the divorce of her (Muslim) sister so that she may pour out her vessel.
Hadith 678
Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: It is not appropriate for a woman to stipulate the divorce of her (Muslim) sister so that she may pour out her vessel.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) taught us the tashahhud for prayer and for need. Thus, he mentioned both the tashahhud of prayer and the tashahhud of need, and said: The tashahhud of need should be recited as follows: "Indeed, all praise is for Allah, we praise Him, seek His help, and ask His forgiveness, and we seek refuge in Allah from the evils of our souls. Whomever Allah guides, none can misguide, and whomever He lets go astray, none can guide. I bear witness that there is no deity except Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger." Then he should recite three verses: "Fear Allah as He should be feared, and do not die except as Muslims." (Aal Imran: 102) "And fear Allah, by Whom you ask one another, and (respect) the ties of kinship. Indeed, Allah is ever an Observer over you." (An-Nisa: 1) "Fear Allah and speak words that are appropriate." (Al-Ahzab: 70) (Fear Allah as He should be feared, and let your death be upon Islam. Fear Allah by Whose name you ask one another, and take care of your relatives. Surely, Allah is watching over you. Fear Allah and speak rightly.)

Sayyida Umm Salama (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that Sayyida Umm Habiba (may Allah be pleased with her) said: O Messenger of Allah! Do you have an interest in my sister? He said: What should I do with her? She said: You should marry her. He said: Your sister? She said: Yes! He said: Do you like that? She replied: I am not the only one who is your wife, and I would prefer that my sister also share in this honor (of being your wife) with me. He said: She is not lawful for me (because two sisters cannot be married at the same time). Umm Habiba (may Allah be pleased with her) said: By Allah! I have come to know that you have sent a marriage proposal to Durrah or Dhurrah. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: To the daughter of Umm Salama? She replied: Yes! He said: By Allah! Even if she were not my stepdaughter (the daughter of my wife from a previous husband), she would still not be lawful for me, because she is the daughter of my foster brother. Both her father and I were suckled by Thuwaibah, so do not offer your daughters and sisters to me (for marriage).
