Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that he asked: O Messenger of Allah! Which deed is the best? He replied: To have faith in Allah and to strive in His path. He asked: Which slave is best to set free? He replied: The one who is most valuable and most beloved to his owners. He says: I asked: If I am not able to do that (set such a slave free)? He replied: Help someone who is in need or do work for someone who is unskilled. He said: If I am unable to do even that (i.e., cannot do this either)? He replied: Refrain from evil; this is a charity that you do for your own self.
