Hadith 720
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى ، قَالَ : وَفِيمَا قَرَأْتُ عَلَى ابْنِ نَافِعٍ ، عَنْ مَالِكِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ ، عَنْ نَافِعِ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " نَهَى عَنِ الشِّغَارِ " ، وَالشِّغَارُ : أَنْ يُزَوِّجَ الرَّجُلُ الرَّجُلَ ابْنَتَهُ عَلَى أَنْ يُزَوِّجَهُ الآخَرُ ابْنَتَهُ وَلَيْسَ بَيْنَهُمَا صَدَاقٌ .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade shighar (exchange marriage). Shighar is when a man marries his daughter to another man on the condition that the latter marries his daughter to him, and no dowry is given in either marriage.
