Hazrat Abu Musa Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that when we received the news of the migration of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), we were in Yemen. Therefore, we also set out with the intention of migrating to the service of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). Myself and my two brothers—I was the youngest of them. One of my brothers was named Abu Burda (may Allah be pleased with him) and the other Abu Rahm. He said that there were a little more than fifty, or he narrated it as fifty-three (53) or fifty-two (52) people from my tribe who were with us. We boarded a boat, but our boat brought us to the land of Najashi, in Abyssinia. There we met Ja'far bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him), who had already migrated there from Mecca. We stayed there with him, then all of us set out together for Madinah. We reached the service of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) at a time when he had already conquered Khaybar. Some people, meaning those who had migrated by boat, began to say to us that they had migrated before us. And Asma bint Umais (may Allah be pleased with her), who had come to Madinah with us, went to visit Umm al-Mu'mineen Hafsa (may Allah be pleased with her). She (Asma) had also migrated with those who went to the land of Najashi. Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) also came to the house of Hafsa (may Allah be pleased with her). At that time, Asma bint Umais (may Allah be pleased with her) was present there. When Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) saw her, he asked, "Who is this?" Umm al-Mu'mineen (may Allah be pleased with her) replied, "Asma bint Umais." Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "Oh, is she the one who came by sea from Abyssinia?" Asma (may Allah be pleased with her) replied, "Yes." Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said to her, "We have preceded you in migration, so we are closer to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) than you." Asma (may Allah be pleased with her) became very angry at this and said, "Never! By Allah, you people were with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him); if any of you were hungry, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would feed him, and if anyone was ignorant, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would advise and admonish him. But we were far away, living in the land of strangers and enemies in Abyssinia. All of this we did only for Allah and His Messenger. By Allah! I will neither eat food nor drink water until I have conveyed your words to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). We were tormented, threatened, and frightened. I will mention this to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and ask him about it. By Allah, I will neither lie, nor deviate, nor add anything (contrary to the truth)." So when the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) arrived, she said, "O Prophet of Allah! Umar says such things." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asked, "Then what did you reply to him?" She said, "I replied to him such and such." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "They are not closer to me than you. They and their companions have only one migration, but you, the people of the boat, have the honor of two migrations." She narrated that after this incident, Abu Musa and all the people of the boat began to come to me in groups and ask me about this hadith. For them, nothing in this world was more pleasing and a source of pride than this statement of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) about them. Abu Burda (the narrator of the hadith) narrated that Hazrat Asma (may Allah be pleased with her) said that Hazrat Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) used to listen to this hadith from me repeatedly.
