Hazrat Saeed bin Abi Burdah narrates from his father that the Noble Prophet (peace be upon him) sent his grandfather, Hazrat Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him), and Mu’adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) as governors to Yemen and said: Make things easy for the people, do not put them in difficulties. Give people glad tidings, do not make them averse to the religion, and both of you should be in agreement with each other. Upon this, Abu Musa Ash’ari (may Allah be pleased with him) submitted: “O Messenger of Allah! In our country, a wine is made from barley which is called ‘al-mizr’, and a wine is made from honey which is called ‘al-bita’.” The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Every intoxicating thing is forbidden.
