Brief Explanation
By "kahin" is meant a person who claims knowledge of the unseen (ilm al-ghayb) and gives people information regarding future matters. In Arabia, kahin individuals used to claim that they knew many things. Some would say that they had control over jinn who provided them with information; others claimed that they comprehended matters through their own understanding and intelligence. Some would say that by observing cases, they deduced matters—such as identifying a stolen item, etc. Some people also refer to those who possess knowledge of the stars and astrologers as kahin. —(Murattib rahimahullah)
