Hadith 9916

وَعَنْهُ مِنْ طَرِيقٍ ثَالِثٍ يَرْفَعُهَا إِنَّ الْعَبْدَ يَتَكَلَّمُ بِالْكَلِمَةِ يَزِلُّ بِهَا فِي النَّارِ أَبْعَدَ مَا بَيْنَ الْمَشْرِقِ وَالْمَغْرِبِ
(Third chain) The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Indeed, a person utters a word because of which he slips and falls into the Fire to a distance as far as the distance between the east and the west.

Benefits: … People, in jest, hurl obscene insults at one another, calling each other Christian, Jew, or even “Karar,” and they mock the Sunnahs.
