Hadith 9468

(Second chain) The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Whoever visits a sick person remains among the chosen fruits of Paradise for as long as he stays. Someone asked: What is meant by the "khurfah" of Paradise? He, peace and blessings be upon him, replied: Its chosen fruit.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … But among us, there is a great misfortune that when it comes to fulfilling the great right of caring for the sick and visiting the ill, we do not base it on Allah, the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), or Islam. Rather, we consider our personal relationships and individual connections. We will go to visit the person with whom we have some worldly connection, or who may have come to visit us, or who is wealthy. Such a relationship is called an exchange of smiles and favors. In the midst of this, there is a lack of sincerity for Allah (lillahiyyah). Such people are rare who base their care for their brother on Islam.

Hazrat Jabir (radi Allahu anhu) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said: “Take us to the insightful man who is among the tribe of Banu Waqif so that we may visit him.” He said: And he was a blind man. (Abu Sa‘id bin al-A‘rabi has narrated it in his Mu‘jam: 1/133, Sahihah: 521)

It is the right of the sick person that others care for him. The Noble Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) did not differentiate between high and low, or rich and poor, in fulfilling this right. We too should respect humanity, not wealth and our personal feelings. Visiting the sick is a deed that brings reward and merit.
