Hadith 9197

Narrated by Sayyiduna Mu’adh bin Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by some people who were standing in one place, sitting on their animals and mounts. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said to them: Ride these animals while they are healthy, and leave them in a state of health and soundness, and do not make them chairs for talking in the roads and markets (i.e., do not sit on them unnecessarily). For how many mounts are there that are better than their riders and remember Allah more than them.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … This too is a favor of Allah Ta’ala upon the children of Adam, that He did not grant animals the power of speech; otherwise, this could have caused people considerable trouble. However, this does not mean that a person should act according to his own whims and show no regard for the voiceless creatures. If Allah Ta’ala, for the service of mankind, did not grant animals the ability to express hunger, thirst, and hardship through speech, then He has enjoined upon humans that they should not only be mindful of this, but also fear Allah Ta’ala in this regard. How significant it is that taking care of the rights of animals is a requirement of the fear of Allah.
