بَابُ التَّرْغِيْبِ فِي كَفَالَةِ الْيَتیْمِ وَالْإِحْسَانِ إِلَيْهِ، وَمَسْحٍ رَأْسِهِ وَالشَّهْرِ عَلَى الْأَرْمَلَةِ وَالْمِسْكِينِChapter on encouragement to sponsor orphans, be kind to them, caress their heads, and care for widows and the needy

عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ مَنْ مَسَحَ رَأْسَ يَتِيمٍ لَمْ يَمْسَحْهُ إِلَّا لِلَّهِ كَانَ لَهُ بِكُلِّ شَعْرَةٍ مَرَّتْ عَلَيْهَا يَدُهُ حَسَنَاتٌ وَمَنْ أَحْسَنَ إِلَى يَتِيمَةٍ أَوْ يَتِيمٍ عِنْدَهُ كُنْتُ أَنَا وَهُوَ فِي الْجَنَّةِ كَهَاتَيْنِ وَفَرَّقَ بَيْنَ إِصْبَعَيْهِ السَّبَّابَةِ وَالْوُسْطَى
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever strokes the head of an orphan only for the sake of Allah Almighty, for every hair over which his hand passes, he will receive a good deed equal to the number of those hairs. And whoever does good to an orphan boy or girl, I and he will be in Paradise like these two fingers. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) then indicated with his index and middle fingers.
