Narrated from Sayyiduna Laqit bin Sabrah (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: I said, "O Messenger of Allah! I have a wife," then he complained about her sharp tongue and causing him distress. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Divorce her." He said, "O Messenger of Allah! She is an old companion of life and I have children from her." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Then keep her with you, but continue to advise her. If there is any good in her, she will accept it. However, do not beat your wife as a slave is beaten."
