Hadith 6246

عَنْ يَعْلَى بْنِ مُرَّةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَنِ الْتَقَطَ لُقْطَةً يَسِيرَةً دِرْهَمًا أَوْ حَبْلًا أَوْ شِبْهَ ذَلِكَ فَلْيُعَرِّفْهُ ثَلَاثَةَ أَيَّامٍ فَإِنْ كَانَ فَوْقَ ذَلِكَ فَلْيُعَرِّفْهُ سَنَةً
Sayyiduna Ali bin Murrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever finds a trivial thing that has fallen, such as a dirham, a rope, or something similar, should announce it for three days. And if he finds something more valuable than that, he should announce it for one year.
Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Since this hadith is weak, it is not considered authoritative; therefore, the announcement should be made for only one year. However, there is no need to announce trivial items, such as a date seed, one or two rupees, etc.
