It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Companions said: O Messenger of Allah! Tell us about an action that is equal to striving (jihad) in the way of Allah. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: You do not have the ability to do that. He said this two or three times. The people said: Please tell us, perhaps we might have the ability to do it? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The example of the one who strives (mujahid) is like that of a person who fasts continuously and stands in prayer with the verses of Allah continuously, neither tiring from fasting nor from prayer, until the mujahid returns to his family.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … "Musalsal" (continuous) means that from the moment the mujahid (one who strives in jihad) sets out for jihad until his return, if a person were to remain constantly in a state of fasting and prayer, not showing laziness even for a moment, it is evident that this is not possible. Thus, it is as if there is no other deed equal to jihad.
